The Heartwarming Taste of Vietnam on Phu Quoc Island

When it comes to pho, there’s no place quite like Pho 88 in Cu Lap, Phu Quoc. As someone who has explored countless bowls of pho across the country, I can confidently say that this humble spot delivers the best in Vietnam.
This high season, as the island buzzed with activity, Pho 88 remained a haven of comfort and deliciousness. Despite the rush, the team stayed cheerful, even as they hustled to keep up with demand. Sure, they were running low on noodles at one point, but that didn’t stop the smiles and lovely conversations that make this place so special.
On my latest visit, I ordered the Pho Tai Gau, a rich and hearty bowl of beef brisket pho. To my delightful surprise, the steaming bowl was served with a personal touch: nestled snugly in a bowl cozy gifted to me by my dear friend, Verna MacMillan, from the Scottville School of Arts and Crafts back in Cape Breton. Verna, knowing my love for Vietnamese soups, had thought ahead, ensuring I’d have this practical and thoughtful keepsake. The cozy, crafted by Twisted Stitches from Margaree Centre, has become a cherished reminder of home, connecting my roots to my travels.

The Magic of Pho 88
Pho 88’s secret lies in its authentic recipes and dedication to quality. Their slow-simmered broth, infused with aromatic spices like cinnamon and star anise, is the soul of their pho. Whether you opt for the Pho Tai (rare beef) or the Pho Dac Biet (a feast of brisket, meatballs, tendon, and more), each bowl is a symphony of flavors.
Beyond pho, the menu extends to other Vietnamese classics like bún bò huế, a spicy lemongrass soup, and the iconic banh mi sandwiches, capturing the French-Vietnamese culinary fusion - and everything is made from the heart with lots of smiles!

Regardless of the time of day or how busy they are, you are always greeted with smiles!

A Dining Experience Like No Other
Pho 88 isn’t just about food; it’s about connection. The casual and welcoming vibe makes every visit feel like a homecoming. Guests are encouraged to customize their bowls with fresh herbs, bean sprouts, lime, and a dash of chili, tailoring each bite to their liking. Situated in Cu Lap hamlet, Pho 88 is ideally placed for locals and travelers alike. Its proximity to the vibrant nightlife and attractions of Duong Dong town makes it a must-visit on the island.

Why Pho 88 Stands Out
What truly sets Pho 88 apart isn’t just the impeccable pho; it’s the sense of community and culture it fosters. The staff’s warmth, the dedication to quality, and the stories shared over steaming bowls make it more than a restaurant—it’s an experience.
As I sat enjoying my Pho Tai Gau, wrapped in the cozy gifted from Cape Breton, I couldn’t help but marvel at how Pho 88 embodies the spirit of Vietnam. It’s not just a meal; it’s a journey—one that connects people, places, and stories from around the globe.
So if you find yourself on Phu Quoc, don’t miss out on Pho 88. Trust me, it’s a bowl of joy waiting to be savored.
