Exploring the Phu Quoc Night Market

A Culinary Delight Amidst a Quiet Night

Phu Quoc Night Market, located at 6 Bach Dang Street in Duong Dong Town, is a vibrant culinary and shopping hub on Vietnam's Phu Quoc Island. While this market once boasted live entertainment and bustling activity in its entertainment zone, that section is now closed. However, the market's incredible food offerings more than make up for it, providing an unforgettable experience for visitors.

The pearls are amazing at a fraction of the price!

A Gastronomic Adventure

The Phu Quoc Night Market is best known for its mouthwatering array of fresh seafood and local delicacies. On my visit, I started my culinary journey with a barbequed chicken skewer. The juicy, smoky flavor was absolutely delightful, but I decided to pass on the barbequed frog—a more adventurous option for braver palates.

Later, a seafood stall caught my eye with its glistening display of fresh clams. Although I was hoping to savor them grilled or steamed, the vendor offered them only as part of a clam soup. Intrigued, I agreed—and I was not disappointed. The "soup" turned out to be an enormous pot brimming with clams, fragrant broth, and herbs. It took several bowls to even make a dent in it, but every spoonful was worth it. The clams were tender, flavorful, and absolutely to die for.

Pick what seafood you would like to enjoy, it is a fresh selection!

We chose the clams but the soup was enough for an army!!

Dining with a View

We chose to sit at a table near the wall of the restaurant overlooking the river and the iconic bridge. The view was picturesque, with the shimmering lights reflecting on the water. However, the scene was marred slightly by the floating rubbish in the river—a reminder of the environmental challenges faced by growing tourist destinations like Phu Quoc.

The view was lovely!!

The Market Experience

The market itself is organized into three main zones:

  • Zone 1 at the entrance features food stalls brimming with grilled seafood, local specialties, and snacks.

  • Zone 2 is a treasure trove of souvenirs, from handcrafted jewelry made with Phu Quoc pearls to traditional Vietnamese hats.

The grapes were the size of apples!!

Handcrafts are fabulous souvenirs!!

Phu Quoc Night Market is a culinary paradise that offers a glimpse into the island's vibrant food culture. From the sizzling skewers to the hearty clam soup, every bite is a testament to the island’s rich culinary heritage. While the lack of entertainment may leave some visitors wanting more, the market's incredible food and scenic dining spots ensure a memorable experience.

For those visiting Phu Quoc, make sure to carve out an evening to explore this iconic market. Come hungry—you’ll leave with a full belly and a satisfied smile.
